Become a Vounteer

Volunteer

We greatly value our team of volunteers at Torfaen Museum, all of whom contribute their time, energy and knowledge to help us preserve our local history. With a wide range of volunteering opportunities available, why not volunteer with us, gain new skills and become part of the team. We have several placements for volunteering and will try to accommodate your unique interests as best we can. You can volunteer as much or as little as you would like and on whichever day suits you. We are able to offer volunteer opportunities to anyone over the age of 16 with plenty of physical activity for those who wish to stay busy, or quieter roles for those who would like to relax and take things easy. There is no formal interview although we would invite you for an informal chat before beginning so that we fully understand your needs. We don’t require you to have any qualifications and there is no pressure to stay. We ask everyone who is interested in volunteering at Amgueddfa Torfaen Museum to register their interest by filling out a Registration Form (below) for a specific volunteer role. You will then be invited for an informal interview at the Museum to discuss your volunteering needs. Have a look at our current volunteer opportunities here …

Reception Volunteer

This role might involve selling and recording admission tickets and shop sales, cash handling, learning and imparting information about the Museum, its services and the locality to our visitors, taking bookings for workshops and events, helping to manage the museum diary, answering and acting on telephone calls or helping to keep the reception and shop areas clean and tidy.

Coffee Shop Volunteer

This role will give you the opportunity to greet and serve our customers, ensure that hygiene and safety regulations are upheld, create beverages and provide ideas for new products on offer, manage stock and gain new experiences and training.

Collections Volunteer

As a Collections Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work directly with the historic objects within the collections, working closely alongside the curatorial staff. Duties might include helping to store and clean objects, moving objects or reporting on environmental conditions. All training will be provided.

Library and Archive Volunteer

Duties will include supporting the team of librarians in the Dobell-Moseley Library and Archive at Torfaen Museum. This may involve tidying and keeping the library areas neat and safe, researching local history enquiries for members of the public, contributing to the digitization of the archive materials and cataloguing new materials into the collection.

Event Support Volunteer

Events Support Volunteers are vital to the smooth running and delivery of all events at Torfaen Museum, large or small. These range from tours of the Museum to conferences booked into our community room an multi-agent, family events. These events are run regularly although hours of volunteering available may vary depending on the needs of the Museum.

Gardening and Grounds Volunteer

Within the courtyard at Torfaen Museum we have several raised plant beds and pots which require a dedicated team of volunteers to keep them looking tidy and welcoming for visitors. There is also sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, wiping down doors and windows and some painting work required for those who fancy getting stuck in. If you are a keen gardener or interested in helping to keep our building looking its best then we would love to hear from you.
