Welcome to the online Pontypool educational resource pack

This is a free cross – curricular educational resource pack to support Key Stage Two by exploring Pontypool Town and its history. Before you start, we suggest you continue to read this page and browse through the remainder of the site in order to decide how you can best implement this resource within your own curriculum needs.

The aim of this resource is to:

  • Encourage children and communities to learn about, and enjoy the local town of Pontypool and to make a positive contribution to the community.
  • Help strengthen community ties and interest in Pontypool as a town for students living near Pontypool.
  • Introduce Pontypool as an area of cultural interest to the rest of the world.
  • Encourage people to learn about and be inspired by their local heritage.
  • To develop children’s creativity and ICT skills.

The Education Resources

This Education resource has been designed for use by primary school teachers for Key stage 2, however some activities will be appropriate for Foundation Phase, and Key Stage 3 and 4.

How to use this resource pack

This pack has been designed to be a flexible, easy to use, enjoyable resource for both teachers and Pupils. This guide is not prescriptive, or exhaustive. Each section is designed to be either a self contained module, or can be used as part of a larger project on Pontypool. Each activity builds on previous activities to increase understanding of the heritage of Pontypool.

The pack offers suggestions, activities and resources for lessons and projects. They can be activities within their own right, or can be used as part of a module, or a town wide project that could last a number of weeks.

All resources are free to use, and can be downloaded or used online.

The website

This website is one of the key resources to be used, as a central resource, and should provide all the information needed in the classroom. We suggest teachers browse the website before starting to teach the classroom activities.

The website offers lots of materials about Pontypool town, and its surrounding areas. In each area you will find the worksheets, guides and online resources.

We hope you enjoy using this education resource, and you find it very useful.

The Digital Trails App and online resources

Alongside the teachers resource is an app that can be downloadable onto any mobile. It is free and contains trails in and around Pontypool that will help you deliver the onsite teaching. There are also several games that can be used as teaching aids.
